Root canal therapy involves removing a portion of the tooth crown to gain access to the pulp chamber and clear out all the infection, bacteria, and damaged pulp and tissues. Disinfecting and cleaning the canals is the next step before filling them with a hardening material. The tooth will then be sealed to keep bacteria from entering the chamber and root canal and covered with a dental crown to ensure it remains strong and functional after treatment. While root canals can have a bad reputation, Dr. Schotthoefer has been trained to do them painlessly and her patients are pleasantly surprised at how smoothly and painlessly the treatment goes.
Tooth extractions are one of the most common types of oral surgery procedures. Generally a simple procedure, tooth extraction can be completed right in the dentist’s office. During this procedure, your dentist gently removes the tooth, being careful not to disturb healthy bone or gum tissue. Dr. Schotthoefer has over 50 hours of advanced continuing education in Oral Surgery. She can complete most every extraction of a non-impacted tooth and some extractions with a partially impacted tooth. We offer oral sedation and have Nitrous Oxide plumbed into every room of the practice to help with patient anxiety.
Another form of tooth extraction, wisdom tooth removal, is often more complex and can take up to a few hours to complete. Dr. Schotthoefer has extracted many non-impacted wisdom teeth in-office as well as some partially impacted teeth. We offer oral sedation and have Nitrous Oxide plumbed into every room of the practice to help with patient anxiety. When the best care option is to be seen by an oral surgeon, Dr. Schotthoefer will make a referral to a trusted doctor for you to consult with.
